Production Planning and Control (PPC)
Primary objective:
- The Head of PPC is responsible for the strategic planning, scheduling, and coordination of production activities to ensure efficient utilization of resources, timely delivery, and alignment with business objectives. This role involves managing the end-to-end supply chain processes, optimizing production schedules, and driving continuous improvement in the manufacturing environment within the machine tools industry.
Job responsibilities/description:
Production Planning:
- Develop and implement robust production plans to meet customer demand while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
- Balance production capacity with market demand, ensuring timely delivery of machine tools.
- Collaborate with sales, R&D, and operations to forecast production requirements and manage lead times effectively.
Scheduling and Coordination:
- Oversee the preparation of production schedules, considering machine loading, manpower, and material availability.
- Monitor production progress and resolve bottlenecks to maintain schedules.
- Ensure seamless coordination between departments, including procurement, quality, and manufacturing.
Inventory and Material Management:
- Manage material planning processes, ensuring availability of raw materials and components without overstocking.
- Optimize inventory levels to reduce carrying costs and improve cash flow.
- Collaborate with procurement to maintain supplier relationships and mitigate material shortages.
Process Optimization:
- Analyze production workflows and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing or other process improvement methodologies within the PPC function.
- Implement advanced planning systems to streamline scheduling and resource allocation.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor the PPC team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Build cross-functional collaboration to align PPC objectives with organizational goals.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Track production KPIs, including on-time delivery, capacity utilization, and production efficiency.
- Generate reports and insights to support strategic decision-making.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks in production planning and implement contingency strategies.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality standards in all planning activities.
Key skill required:
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, capacity planning, and supply chain management.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems for production planning and inventory control.
- Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills for managing teams and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic production requirements and changing customer demands.
Job prerequisites:
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- 20+ years of experience in supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the machine tools or manufacturing industry.
- Proven track record of managing complex supply chains in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- On-time delivery performance.
- Reduction in production lead times and inventory holding costs.
- Improved production capacity utilization.
- Accuracy of production schedules and material forecasts.
